If you’re like a lot of us, a big part of the stress comes from dealing with differing personalities. We focus a lot on those special difficult people as the stressors, but the truth is the other person doesn’t have to be especially difficult or negative to cause you stress or anxiety; they simply have to be very different than your own. Here are some examples of personality differences that can cause stress.
You love quiet – the person in the next cube/office listens to talk radio – or music you find irritating.
You are super cheerful and laugh a lot – the guy nearest to you scowls every time you laugh.
In meetings you get excited by the ideas being discussed and love to throw out ideas as they come to you – management wants you to present every idea in writing. For you this loses spontaneity and you benefit much more from instant feedback which gives you a better feel for if you even want to proceed further with the idea.
Then, of course, there are the toxic people – they put you down, they say No to everything before even considering. They just seem to have a life filled with stress, negativity and trauma or they don’t take anything seriously, or they take everything too seriously….fill in the blanks, you know who they are.
Many sensitive people are retreating into their homes, unable to face the drain of too much energy and emotional input. Agoraphobia and hermitism (my term) are very common among people who are sensitive to energy – this includes both other people’s stress and negativity and electrical energy of all kinds (EMF, RF, EMR). They are simply too impacted to “be in the world” and so they retreat.
Not all avoid going out completely, but many carefully plan how much they can handle in public settings or even with small groups of people. They need quiet, alone time to refresh and regroup. Those who are super sensitive and possibly also sensitive to electromagnetic radiation are actually afraid to go out. Continue reading
Before becoming a health coach I worked for five years in a corporate job. As an HSP this was a big challenge for me. I found almost everything about the job and the environment completely draining, but my biggest problem was that I couldn’t understand why other people around me seemed to be fine. After the first few exhausting years, I began learning about what it means to be an HSP.
Do you have a difficult time feeling at home or living in the world? Are there days when you feel that you don’t belong here?
You’re not alone. HSPs, empaths, and others who are sensitive in one way or another often find it extremely difficult to be here on Earth – sometimes it seems excruciating. The energy is often overwhelming, chaotic and disharmonious that many are disconnected from their bodies and not at all grounded. Strangely being ungrounded and disconnected makes it even more difficult to be here. Continue reading
What’s a Holiday Sensitivity Profile? It’s your energy profile and prediction of how well you’ll get through the holiday!
The holidays are upon us again. For many of us, the holidays are a mixed bag. While many people look forward to them, others dread them or have mixed feelings for a variety of reasons.
I was reminded of this yesterday when talking to a very balanced, focused friend who was feeling “off” and kind of sad. When I mentioned that it’s almost Thanksgiving, she immediately knew that’s what was wrong.
If you’re a Highly Sensitive Person it’s quite likely that the holidays are more of a struggle for you, but even people who don’t normally have a problem find the holidays to be very stressful.
I do! I start my holiday shopping early in the fall, because I’m picky about what I give my friends and family. And there are always people “impossible” to buy for! I’m torn between buying what I would want or finding something to fit them. (Hint: if we love it, they’ll probably feel the same way!) Whatever I buy, I worry they won’t be happy.
You guessed it. I’m a co-dependent gift giver. Enough is never enough! Over the years I’ve learned to soften the edges of my holiday shopping anxiety with this simple mantra: It really is the thought that counts!
Do you have unexplained mood swings, strange health issues, feelings of overwhelm and exhaustion that don’t seem to have an explanation?
Being an empath or HSP (Highly Sensitive Person) can give you huge advantages both in business and in life. Believe it or not, your sensitivity could just be a blessing.
You hear a lot about the downside of being an empath/HSP; feeling drained, overwhelmed, bombarded, losing focus and yes, feeling other people’s fears. In fact, if you’re like most of us, you struggle daily and can’t imagine that there’s an upside to being an energy sponge.
But it’s not all negative, if you learn ways to work with your sensitivity. When you are able to balance out the plusses and minuses, you’ll find a refreshing clarity of thought and depth of emotions. Continue reading
