Shopping with Intention: Giving What Only You Can Give – Holiday Survival Series #2

Shopping with Intention

Don’t you just hate the pressure of finding the perfect gift?

I do! I start my holiday shopping early in the fall, because I’m picky about what I give my friends and family. And there are always people “impossible” to buy for! I’m torn between buying what I would want or finding something to fit them. (Hint: if we love it, they’ll probably feel the same way!) Whatever I buy, I worry they won’t be happy.

Are you a Co-Dependent gift giver?

You guessed it. I’m a co-dependent gift giver.  Enough is never enough! Over the years I’ve learned to soften the edges of my holiday shopping anxiety with this simple mantra: It really is the thought that counts!

( FYI: Click here for some great stress reduction tips to free up your holiday joy!)

Intention Shapes your Reality

Because I believe intention is a key to shaping my reality, that old cliché takes on new meaning. The more I focus on the person and the love (however complicated) I feel for them, the more they’ll love their gift. So when I shop, I take a deep breath and set my intention to share love. I go through the same process when I wrap presents and watch people open them. The result? Less anxiety, more pleasure for everyone. It turns out, love is the gift everyone wants. And my love, as unique as each relationship I’m shopping to celebrate, is the gift only I can give. The joy people feel when they receive that love gives me joy in return. According to the Abraham Hicks “law of attraction” philosophy, I shouldn’t be surprised.

Let the Universe present you with all you have asked for

According to the Abraham Hicks “law of attraction” philosophy, I shouldn’t be surprised. Here’s one of my favorite quotes from the channeled Abraham teachings: “All is well. You did not come here to fix a broken world. The world is not broken. You came here to live a wonderful life. And if you can learn to relax a little and let it all in, you will begin to see the universe present you with all that you have asked for.” The love exchange is real – and it’s about relaxing, letting love in (and out!) and living with intention. We all hunger for that warm feeling of holiday cheer. By consciously sending love with every package, we attract that same fire

Exchange Love

The love exchange is real – and it’s about relaxing, letting love in (and out!) and living with intention. We all hunger for that warm feeling of holiday cheer. By consciously sending love with every package, we attract that same fire to the heart’s hearth.

Surprisingly Simply Joys

This year, my favorite gift, because it has been given and received with the most joy, may surprise you. I’ve been making tinfoil stars – cutting out cardboard stars and covering them with Reynold’s Wrap. It’s a family tradition. We still top our tree with the star my mother made for her first married Christmas. So when I give my friends their own star, I’m telling them, “We’re family. I love you.” It’s been so much fun to share that homemade light! Of course, I’ve splurged on store-bought tokens as well, reminding myself with each purchase, it’s the thought that counts.

This year, however you celebrate the winter holiday, trust the power of intention and give the gift of love. Then, whatever you’ve wrapped in shiny paper (or even ordinary tin foil!) will be perfect.
