For most of us, getting the flu is a moderate inconvenience. We lie around the house, miss a few days of work and catch up on a book or watch movies. For a few it does not turn out this way.

The CDC states that there are 36,000 deaths per year associated with the flu.* Actually, this 36,000 is a combined figure for both flu and pneumonia. Deaths from flu alone are 360 to 1,440 or 1-4% of this combined number. *

In the early part of the 20th Century, the death rate from flu and pneumonia dropped by almost 90 percent, before the widespread introduction of flu vaccines. These same death rates did not decline after the introduction of flu vaccines. This indicates that the mortality rate can be most effectively reduced with increases in hygiene and nutrition.

What are the consequences of getting a flu shot? In 1976, one soldier at Fort Dix died of swine flu and 30 people died after receiving the flu vaccine. Also, 565 people contracted Guillain-Barre Syndrome (characterized numbness, muscle weakness and even paralysis) after getting the flu shot. Was it the virus, the formaldehyde, thermasol (mercury) or something else in the vaccination? No one is certain.

Why is it that the government, vaccine manufacturers and those who administer the flu vaccine are immune from prosecution for any form or damage or negligence?
